Greensboro, NC – Staff announced Wednesday January 1st, the 2020 GProTour schedule, which features 20 events in five states beginning early February and ending in November, with the season culminating in the 2020 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP.

The 2020 season will be the biggest evolution for GProTour to date, with the inclusion of a season long POINTS LIST, CHAMPIONSHIPS and season ending TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP, aligning the tour with the PGA Tour system, and with an estimated 1.5 million in prize money season long.

 

Welcome to the CHAMPIONSHIPS

For the first time in GProTour history, championships (majors) will feature on the schedule, featuring larger purses, 100% payout and increased points (x1.5). Members along with the top-30 on the season money list will have priority entry into these. Prize purses are estimated to exceed $100,000 with $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd

 

Consistency with POINTS

Players will now compete weekly for both points and prize money. The amount of points on offer each week will be determined by the event format. Championships will offer the most points 1.5 x regular 54-hole events. Points on offer will not be reflected by field size. The inclusion of points this season will create a more consistent metric to qualify for the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

It ends with the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2020 season will culminate in the 2020 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP hosted by Albemarle Plantation November 4th and 5th, featuring a sponsored $50,000 prize purse with $10,000 to the winner.

The top 30 points winners and ties at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the 36-hole event. Players will be greeted with free practice rounds, host housing, pro-am and dinning. The 30-man field will be competing for 15 paid spots splitting the $50,000 purse as follows:

2020 REX HOSPITAL OPEN EXEMPTION

The Rex Hospital Open and GProTour in association with Albemarle Plantation and Biggs Cadillac Buick GMC are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2020 Biggs Classic May 21st – 23rd will receive an unrestricted exemption into the Rex Hospital Open, part of the PGA TOUR’s Korn Ferry Tour, May 25 – may 30th , 2020 at TPC Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh.

 

New EVENTS, PAYOUTS, PAID Q SCHOOLS and PRO-AMS

Along with announcing the three major inclusions for the 2020 season, the tour will welcome a number of new EVENTS highlighted by:

2020 GOLDEN ISLES CLASSIC final round hosted by Frederica Golf Club

2020 PALENCIA CLASSIC hosted by The Palencia Club

 

Back by popular demand…

at a number of events next season, the tour will reward the winner of certain events with a $5,000 Q SCHOOL ENTRY BONUS.

 

PAYOUTS

$10,000 first place with 59+ professionals will be the standard for 54-hole events (Classics and Opens) with 33.33% making the cut and $1,100 last place (excluding ties and heavy cuts).

100% payout events are estimated to exceed $100,000 with $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd

 

CHARITY and PRO-AMS

Last season GProTour raised $15,000+ for local charities, in 2020 the tour will be conducting a number of events with PRO-AM’S attached continuing our community outreach with a season goal of $30,000.

The 2020 BIGGS CLASSIC, 2020 Greenville Open and 2020 Chatmoss Classic are among the events next year to host. GProTour members are given priority entry into these pro-am’s, players receive an appearance fee for helping the tour raise money for these great causes. More info to come soon.

 

Player FAVORITES

  • Savannah Quarters Country Club will be back on the schedule March 25th – 27th, the week before the Savannah Championship Monday Qualifier March 30th.
  • In April the tour will host its first event in Carolinas with the 2020 GASTON CLASSIC hosted by Gaston Country Club April 14th – 16th the week before the 2020 Wells Fargo Championship Pre-Q April 23rdhosted on the same course.
  • The tour will head to THE CARDINAL for the 2020 iteration of the HOWARD CLARK MEMORIAL April 28th – May 1st
  • Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying first stage site THE CLUB AT IRISH CREEK will return in its usual spot hosting the 2020 Kannapolis Open July 7th – 9th

 

It all BEGINS…

February 4th – 6th at the 2020 GOLDEN ISLES CLASSIC final round hosted by Frederica Golf Club. Entries and memberships will open January 1st.
